Volleyball on Water in Ljubljana is played on a unique floating court in the Ljubljanica River. The event uses official beach volleyball regulations, and no special rule modifications are made for the water surface. The submerged platform creates splashes and a slightly wobbly surface that adds extra challenge and fun.
BEACH VOLLEYBALL RULES APPLY
The competition is played according to standard FIVB Beach Volleyball rules as 2 vs 2.
MATCH FORMAT
Matches played to best of 3 sets.
First 2 sets are played to 21 points where the winner must win by 2 points.
If the 3rd set is needed, it is played to 15, again the win must be by 2 points.
SCORING
Rally-point system: every rally wins a point, regardless of which team serves.
TOUCHES
There are max. 3 touches per team to return the ball.
A player may not hit the ball twice consecutively (except after the block)
COURT
Floating platform 16 × 8 m with submerged playing area 14 × 7 m and boundaries marked by glowing LED lights. Water depth is at constant approx. 12 cm.
FAULTS
All standard beach volleyball faults apply: net touch, foot fault on serve, ball landing outside the court, etc..
